KEEXS ASO EBI UNISEX SNEAKERS SIZE 7 (EURO 41)

The word Aso in Yoruba means cloth and Ebi denotes family, so Aso-Ebi can be described as a family cloth usually worn during family ceremonies. However, the practice is now beyond family dressing because strangers of a celebrant can wear the Asoebi especially to an Owambe.

The colour pattern inspiration comes from Adire which is the name given to indigo dyed cloth produced by Yoruba women of south western Nigeria using a variety of resist dye techniques. Adire translates as tie and dye, and the earliest cloths were probably simple tied designs on locally-woven hand-spun cotton cloth.

Owambe is a Yoruba word, which loosely means ‘it’s there’. That’s another name for a party, ceremony or function where food and drinks are available aplenty. That means something wonderful or noteworthy is going on and you need to be there. Lagosians love the opportunity to flaunt their aso-ebi in a dynamic atmosphere of socialising, music, food and drinks. The next time you get an invitation to attend a wedding or burial ceremony, know it is going to happen there!
